How Do I Apply For Section Eight?

Section 8 | SPAOA

If you are unemployed or living on a small income, then you may be able to get section eight housing. However, it is important to note that the requirements for section eight housing can vary, depending on your city and state. If you want to apply for section 8 housing, then you should go to the public housing authority in your city. This application can be filled out online, but it is best to go to the public housing authority.

Before you go to the public housing authority, you want to make sure that you have all of the necessary documentation. This includes things such two check stubs from your employer, your mortgage information, state issued identification card and proof of residency (i.e a bill or lease contract). If you are not currently working, then you should bring a proof of unemployment letter. Furthermore, you must be at least 18 years old, and you cannot have a criminal history.

Once you apply for section 8 housing, you may have to wait awhile to see if you are approved. Some people are lucky enough to receive their voucher within sixty days. However, many others have to wait well over a year. In fact, there are some people who have been waiting for their vouchers for over three years.

Section 8 housing is very popular, and that is why it is hard to get a voucher. If you have been waiting for a while, then you  should feel free to contact your caseworker.
